ProStart® Educator Training and Development Awards Descriptions
ETDA Description
"Thanks to Golden Corral and NRA Solutions for giving me this wonderful opportunity to experience a great company and what it will take to train my students to work within the restaurant industry. While there, I was able to not only learn about what Golden Corral was all about, but experience the different areas of training in management, marketing, working within the test kitchen, purchasing, human resources, support staff and public relations. From each area of the company's operations, I will give my students real life examples of the skills and attitudes that will make them top notch workers."
Lisa Campbell, 2007 Recipient
Below are examples of past Educator Training & Development Awards opportunities:
Popeyes® Louisiana Kitchen
Founded in 1972 in New Orleans, Popeyes is a leader in the New Orleans segment of the foodservice industry and is the world's second largest quick-service chicken concept based on the number of units. As of December 26, 2010 Popeyes had 1,977 restaurants in the United States, Guam, Puerto Rico, the Cayman Islands, and 26 foreign countries. For more information, visit the Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen Web site at www.popeyes.com.
Popeyes Training Experience
As part of our objective to deliver continuous development for our ProStart partners, Popeyes Chicken University (PCUE) will offer courses and training to familiarize ProStart teachers with Popeyes. The Popeyes Foundations course will introduce teachers to the brand; its heritage and culture. Teachers will also take courses targeted to each level of management. Then, teachers will spend time in a Popeyes Certified Training Restaurant to understand daily operations and job stations. A local market tour will conclude the training and give teachers insight into the operations of franchise owned restaurants.
During Popeyes ProStart Educator Training, teachers will have a better understanding of the following:
- Popeyes Louisiana Heritage
- Popeyes Station Training
- Train the Trainer Techniques
- Shift Management tools and resources
- Quick Service Restaurants and Franchise Organizations
Popeyes has 275 Certified Training Restaurants (CTR) across the nation. ProStart educators will have the opportunity to participate in Popeyes ProStart Educator Training at a CTR nearby.
The restaurant industry employs 12.8 million people in 960,000 restaurants nationwide. Of those restaurants, 22 percent are in the Quick Service Restaurant (QSR) segment. With the QSR segment posting steady increase in units over the past 11 years, the job opportunities for culinary arts and management students is on the rise as well and it is imperative that we prepare the next generation of employees and restaurateurs for careers and leadership roles in QSR.
Golden Corral

Thirty-seven years after opening our first restaurant, we continue to be successful based on one of our founding beliefs, "We build out business on service to others." From day one, we established the tradition of friendly service, great value and fresh, tasty food, operating in nearly 500 company and franchise restaurants in 40 states. Golden Corral® family-style restaurants specialize in the biggest and best buffet available anywhere while fulfilling our mission of "Making Pleasurable Dining Affordable." For 12 consecutive years, we were ranked #1 in U.S. System-wide Sales, System-wide Sales Growth, and #1 in Top Market Share by Nation’s Restaurant News in the Grill-Buffet category. In 2008, the People Report awarded Golden Corral the Best People Practices award for excellence in management retention, employee retention and composite management diversity. Chain Leader Magazine also named us the 2005 "Best Place to Work," which awards best practices for recruitment, training, and retention in the industry.
Our management training program for new managers is 12-weeks long, consisting of two weeks of intense and rewarding management skills classroom training at our Golden Corral Center for Training and Development in Raleigh, NC. These award recipients will have the opportunity to attend several of these management classes in addition to shadowing in the Golden Corral Food & Beverage Culinary Center, broadening their knowledge of restaurant operations by working in two Raleigh Golden Corral restaurants and meeting with Golden Corral executives and operations team members at our corporate headquarters to gain more knowledge about the restaurant industry.
The Management Training Course include: Managing Food and Labor; Back Office Systems; Buffet Management; Buffet Production System; In-restaurant Activities; Buffet Culinary; P&L; Equipment; Scheduling; and Team Project

After experiencing our comprehensive internship with Golden Corral, the ProStart Educator Training and Development Awards recipients will gain an improved understanding of the skills needed to successfully manage a restaurant. They can then share the experience with their students, who we hope will soon choose to become part of the Golden Corral team.
